(Independent) The Democrat governor of California signed a gun control law on Friday modeled on a controversial Texas abortion rule, which allows private citizens to sue each other for breaking firearms law and collect financial rewards.
“We’re sick and tired of being on the defence in this movement,” said governor Gavin Newsom on Friday, speaking from Santa Monica College.
“It’s time to put them on the defence,” Mr Newsom continued. “You cannot sell, you cannot manufacture, you cannot transfer these illegal weapons of war and mass destruction in the state of California. And if you do, there are 40 million people that can collect $10,000 from you, and attorney fees, for engaging in that illegal activity.”
The bill allows private individuals to sue those who illegally sell assault weapons, gun parts, “ghost guns” without serial numbers, or high-power .50-caliber rifles, and collect a $10,000 payout and legal fees if successful.

(Gateway Pundit) A new bill proposed by Democrat Assemblywoman Buffy Wicks (Oakland) would require ALL workers in California to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
The proposed legislation would mandate all California businesses to require their employees and independent contractors to be vaccinated against Covid unless the employee obtains an exemption for religious reasons or a medical reason.
California would mandate that all businesses require their employees and independent contractors to receive the COVID-19 vaccine under legislation announced Friday by Democratic state lawmakers that was immediately criticized by Republicans as government overreach.
Employees or contractors who qualify for medical or religious exemptions would have to be regularly tested under a planned amendment to the bill. New employees would have to get at least one dose by the time they start work and the second dose within 45 days of being on the job.
Assemblywoman Buffy Wicks introduced her bill months after delaying an original proposal last fall. The previous version would have allowed workers to submit to weekly testing as an alternative to getting vaccinated, but that is not an option in her new proposal.
The mandate would stay in place unless the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention decides that COVID-19 vaccinations are no longer needed.
The bill would require state health and occupational safety officials to advise employers on what qualifies as a medical condition, disability, religious belief and valid vaccination status. Businesses that didn’t comply would face penalties that have yet to be determined.

California is the first state in the country that will require schoolchildren to get vaccinated against COVID-19, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Friday.
The mandate will apply to all who receive in-person instruction, Newsom said, and will begin in the first school term that follows full authorization of a COVID-19 vaccine for children by the US Food and Drug Administration - either in January 1 or July 1, 2022.
The first phase will apply to children in grades 7 through 12, after which the requirement will extend to those entering kindergarten.
In August, the FDA issued a full authorization for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, approving its use for all ages 12 and above. It is expected to authorize the vaccine for children over the age of 5 before the end of the year.

(Summit News) - Unsurprisingly, San Francisco will put into place a government vaccine mandate, meaning no one, including employees, will be able to enter bars, restaurants, gyms, or theatres without having taken the shot.
A negative COVID test or proof of natural immunity will not be an option.
As of August 20th (October 13th for employees), the only way to engage in a social life in the city will be to have been vaccinated.
A “COVID compliance team” will be activated to “reeducate” businesses, according to reports, but the enforcement will be down to business owners.
During a portion of a statement on the county reinstituting its mask mandate broadcast on LA’s KNBC on Thursday, Los Angeles County Health Officer Dr. Muntu Davis stated that requiring everyone, regardless of whether or not they are vaccinated to wear a mask indoors is “much easier and universal and makes this a normal practice again,” and will hopefully lead to lower coronavirus numbers.
Davis said, “Our hope is that, with continued vaccination of people, as well as with masking by everyone indoors, which is much easier and universal and makes this a normal practice again, that we won’t see continued increases in the cases and we’ll start to start to see lower numbers.”
Bravely putting their lives on the line to protect the public from hair stylists serving customers, police in Stockton, CA, raided Pomp Salon just before Christmas and ordered the place to close, as it been operating in defiance of Governor Newsom’s shutdown orders.
“About five armed state police officers burst into our salon shouting drop everything you’re doing. Stop, you’re being shut down,” salon co-owner Vicki Kirk told ABC 10 news.
The police were following orders from the California Department of Consumer Affairs, which apparently has law enforcement powers, and issued three misdemeanor citations to the salon through its Investigate Division.
“They burst into our salon and they treated it like a drug raid,” Kirk told FOX40.
The officers from the enforcement division of the Department of Consumer Affairs tried to cool tempers as shouting and expletives occurred.
The Board of Barbering and Cosmetology issued a statement that said violations of the emergency order could involve the removal of licenses from barbershops and salons.
“The Board strongly encourages licensees, as well as the public, to comply with the applicable Regional Stay-at-Home orders to slow the spread of COVID-19,” the statement read, in part.
But the owners of Pomp said salons are not spreading the virus and cited contact tracing numbers showing infection more much more likely to spread in businesses that are allowed to remain open.
“If there were any evidence that we should close, we would close, absolutely. There is virtually zero evidence to support the closure of our industry,” Ballin claimed.
“I just want to earn a living and we all want to do it safely,” Kirk said. “We have strict safety protocols here, and we will continue to do so.”
The couple said they believed they were singled out because they are outspoken critics of how lockdown rules are applied, citing health protocol violations by the governor and other officials.

More than 230,000 claims were in California, which now has stopped accepting new applications for two weeks while it revamps a struggling benefits system — a change that is likely to temporarily skew the state’s job-loss numbers.
Besides regular claims, 630,080 people applied for new pandemic benefits for self-employed people, including 99,824 in California, according to data released Thursday by the Department of Labor.
California claims for the week accounted for more than a quarter of the national totals — far beyond the state’s 12% share of the U.S. population, which economists attribute to the state’s early and prolonged shutdown, as well as its heavy reliance on travel and tourism.
California has 1.6 million pending claims that it will not resolve until late January, according to the report, which said the backlog is now growing by 10,000 claims a day.
“EDD has failed the people it serves in almost every imaginable way,” said Assemblymember David Chiu, D-San Francisco, in a statement.

(CNBC) - A proposal to raise taxes on California millionaires would result in a top tax rate of nearly 54% for federal and state taxes. Democrats in the California state legislature this week proposed a tax hike on the state’s highest earners to help pay for schools and services hurt by the coronavirus pandemic. Legislators say the tax hike would raise more than $6 billion a year, and would redirect funding from the wealthy to those who have been hit hardest by the Covid-19 crisis. The plan follows proposals in New York state to raise taxes on the wealthy to pay for a widening budget deficit. And it adds to a growing debate over expanding inequality during the pandemic and who should pay the soaring costs to government.
Yet the California proposal would raise the highest state tax rate in the country even higher, and renew the possibility of wealthy Californians fleeing the state. California’s top marginal tax rate is 13.3%. The new proposal would add three new surcharges on seven-figure earners. It would add a 1% surcharge to gross income of more than $1 million, 3% on income over $2 million and 3.5% on income above $5 million. So the top tax rate would be 16.8%, on income of more than $5 million and the combined state and federal tax rate for California’s top earners would soar to 53.8%. With the deduction on state and local taxes capped at $10,000 under the Trump tax cuts, the top-earning Californians wouldn’t be able to deduct the new taxes from their federal returns. CNBC.com

(L.A. Weekly) - California Governor Gavin Newsom said he is prepared to “revert back” to more stringent state stay-at-home orders if necessary during an update on COVID-19’s effect on California.
On Monday, Newsom addressed the COVID-19 case numbers, hospitalizations, the statewide face-covering order and business reopening guidelines.
He said it is up to each individual in the state to “mitigate the likelihood and need” to revert back to the lockdown orders that were implemented at the start of the pandemic.
“We don’t want to do that, we don’t intend to do that, but let me make this very clear — we are prepared to do that if we must,” Newsom said. “Clearly we have the capacity… not to have to go in that direction by just being a little bit more thoughtful about how we go about our day-to-day lives.”
The positivity rate for COVID-19 cases has gone up from an estimated 4.5 percent to 4.8 percent, moving closer to the 5 percent rate that the World Health Organization advises to stay under.

(San Francisco Chronicle) - Governor Gavin Newson released new guidelines for the reopening of churches and other places of worship today. Much like restaurants, services will depend on the size of the building — capacity will be capped at 25% or a maximum of 100 attendees, whichever is fewer.
The religious institutions are encouraged to provide personal protective equipment like gloves and masks to its staff and attendees. Everyone is encouraged to wear face masks and both congregants and staff should be screened for symptoms and have their temperatures checked before entering the building. Only those that live in the same household should sit together.
Markings to indicate six feet of distance between people are encouraged, as well as possible limited seating or alternating rows. Congregants are discouraged from greeting one another by shaking hands or hugging.
Other guidelines include safer protocols for practices like communion, including eliminating the use of a communal cup and providing pre-packed communion items on pews.
The 13-page document also suggests temporarily eliminating group performances and practices for organizations like a choir.
