"It was a splendid population - for all the slow, sleepy, sluggish-brained sloths stayed at home - you never find that sort of people among pioneers - you cannot build pioneers out of that sort of material. It was that population that gave to California a name for getting up astounding enterprises and rushing them through with a magnificent dash and daring and a recklessness of cost or consequences, which she bears unto this day - and when she projects a new surprise the grave world smiles as usual and says, "Well, that is California all over."

Mexicans vs Blacks - Racism in U.S. Senate Contest

Democrats Play the Race Card
Both Leftist Democrats beat the race drum for votes

(Sacramento Bee)  -  Democratic Rep. Loretta Sanchez, in an interview with Univision 19 that aired this weekend, suggested that President Barack Obama’s endorsement of U.S. Senate rival Kamala Harris was in part based on race.
Sanchez was asked why the president had endorsed Harris in the unusual race between two Democrats this year. Speaking in Spanish, she noted that Obama and Harris are longtime friends, then added: “She is African American. He is, too.”
Sanchez, in a statement after the interview aired, said she “in no way” implied or intended to imply Obama endorsed Harris for racial reasons. “I was stating the fact that the endorsement was based on their long-term political relationship,” she said.
Her remarks come days after she ripped Obama for endorsing Harris, arguing he should be focused on helping Democrats win the presidential race rather than inserting himself in a contest between two party members.
“California’s Senate seat does not belong to the political establishment – it belongs to the people of California,” Sanchez said, adding she believes voters will make their own choice in November.
Anxieties between African Americans and Latinos have been an underlying, yet seldom discussed, issue in California politics. Sanchez has aggressively courted Latinos in her campaign to succeed U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer. She has spoken about her Mexican American roots and her ability to speak Spanish. “I think we need a Latina in the U.S. Senate,” Sanchez said in January.
Born to a Jamaican father and Indian mother, Harris said after the shooting of five officers in Dallas that she doesn’t know a black man, be he a relative, a colleague or a friend, that has not been subjected to racial profiling or an unfair stop.

Life in prison for recording music?

Anti-Black Racism

  • Freedom of speech has no meaning to the growing police state.  If you are a Black man you are not allowed to sign about crime or try to make money with an album on the subject.

Notes from the Police State  -  San Diego rapper Brandon Duncan, aka Tiny Doo, is facing a lifetime prison sentence for simply putting out an album.

As ABC 10 reports, he and about 14 other gang members are currently facing attempted murder charges stemming from nine local shootings since April 2013. Although the MC hasn’t been officially tied to the murders, prosecutors are looking to charge Duncan by linking his latest album, No Safety, to an obscure 2000 California law that states gang members can be prosecuted if they somehow “benefit” from crimes committed by other gang members.

Prosecutors claim that No Safety makes Duncan’s gang affiliations clear, and that Duncan has “benefited from the shootings because his gang gained in status, allowing him to sell more albums.” The case marks the first time the law has actually ever been enforced.

Oh The Horror!
An "evil" album cover that dares to show a picture of a gun.

Deputy District Attorney Anthony Campagna pointed to the album’s cover as one piece of evidence against Duncan. “We’re not just talking about a CD of anything, of love songs. We’re talking about a CD (cover) … there is a revolver with bullets,” he noted.

Duncan’s attorney, Brian Watkins, has called the charges “a reach,” saying: “It’s shocking. He has no criminal record. Nothing in his lyrics say go out and commit a crime. Nothing in his lyrics reference these shootings, yet they are holding him liable for conspiracy. There are huge constitutional issues.”

Alex Kreit, a professor at the Thomas Jefferson School of Law, weighed in on the case and whether the charges were constitutionally sound. “Where does that end if that’s the definition of criminal liability?” he told ABC 10. “Is Martin Scorsese going to be prosecuted if he meets with mafia members for a movie for his next film? The Constitution says it can’t be a crime to simply make gangster rap songs and hang out with people that are committing crimes. You have to have more involvement than that.”

The hearing is set to resume this week, when the judge will decide whether it will go to trial.

Convicted Democrat Spends Half an Hour in Jail

"Corruptus in Extremis"

  • If an average person robs a 7-11 they go to jail. But a Democrat Senator convicted of eight felonies spends a big 1/2 hour in jail.

A former Los Angeles area State Senator convicted of perjury and voter fraud served half an hour of a 90-day sentence behind bars.

Democrat Rod Wright appeared Friday at a Los Angeles County jail to begin serving his sentence. But the 62-year-old former lawmaker was released almost immediately after the paperwork was completed -- just 34 minutes after he was booked reports NBC News.

Wright was convicted earlier this year on eight felony counts, including perjury and voting fraud, for lying about where he lived when he ran for office.

He had said he moved into an Inglewood property he owned so he could run in 2008 to represent the 25th Senate District, but jurors found that Wright actually lived outside the district.

Wright resigned his seat rather than face possible expulsion. In separate cases, two other Democratic state senators have been indicted on federal bribery and corruption charges.

10% of California workers are illegal aliens - Black Americans are shafted

Black Americans sold out by Democrats.

Racist Democrats: "Fuck You" to Blacks
  • Democrats have decided to totally screw over African-American citizens of the United States in favor of their brand new favorite ethnic group: illegal alien Hispanics.
  • Unemployment rate:  5.3% for whites, 7.5% for Hispanics and Black unemployment has increased from 10.7% to 11.4%.  (CNS News)
  • Democrats insist that illegal aliens be given jobs, free education, free medical care and free lawyers to fight deportation while Black American citizens go without.

A report released Wednesday by researchers at USC found that illegal aliens here in the People's Republic of California make up nearly 10% of the state's workforce.

The study, which was conducted in conjunction with the California Immigrant Policy Center, was based on census data and other statistics, including data from the Department of Labor and the Department of Homeland Security reports the Los Angeles Times.

USC sociology professor Manuel Pastor, who worked on the report, said it shows how integrated immigrants are into daily life in California.

"It's a population deeply embedded in the labor market, neighborhoods and social fabric of the state," said Pastor, who is a co-director of USC's Center for the Study of Immigrant Integration.

Advocates for more inclusive immigration policy say the economic contributions of immigrants are another reason they should be allowed to stay.

“Every one of California’s immigrants helps shape our state’s economic and civic vitality,” said Reshma Shamasunder, director of the California Immigrant Policy Center. She said President Obama should take immediate action to limit deportations and “honor these contributions and advance economic prosperity.”

But those who call for stricter enforcement of existing immigration laws say assessments of immigrants' share of the GDP does not account for the large cost governments incur in providing schools and other services to illegal aliens here illegally.

Steven Camarot, of the Center for Immigration Studies, which favors stricter restrictions on immigration, also said that bigger economies are not necessarily better.

"A bigger economy doesn't mean the people are richer," he said.

It found that of the 4.4 million immigrants living in the greater Los Angeles region, 1.1 million are here without permission.

California's Forgotten Proslavery Past

A black miner in gold rush California. Historians estimate that between 600 to 1000 enslaved African Americans were forcibly transported to California before the Civil War. Whether or not this particular miner was enslaved is unknown.

by Kevin Waite

Kevin Waite is a PhD candidate at the University of Pennsylvania, working on a dissertation titled, “The Slave South in the Far West: California, the Pacific and Proslavery Visions of Empire."  He received a BA from Williams College and an MPhil from the University of Cambridge.

In the spring of 1861, a curious tune could be heard in the streets and saloons of Los Angeles. A local favorite, “We’ll Hang Abe Lincoln from a Tree,” captured the stormy mood of this frontier town, recently transformed into a hive of Confederate sympathizers. Accompanying this secessionist fanfare, rumors of rebellion swirled across California. The Civil War had arrived in the Far West.

150 years later, the Civil War is still very much with us – in museum exhibits, battlefield commemorations, TV specials and a flurry of publications. Yet amidst all this remembering, the war’s Western dimension has been largely forgotten.

Today, most Americans assume that California remained free of slavery and the bitter conflict it provoked. Human bondage was a Southern sin, we tell ourselves, and the Civil War an Eastern struggle.

African Americans in the California Gold Rush

In fact, California possesses a deep, troubled history with slavery that shaped the state’s racial politics well into the twentieth century. This overlooked history, too, should have a greater place in the ongoing Civil War sesquicentennial.

When California was admitted to the Union as a free state in 1850, its struggles with slavery had, paradoxically, only just begun. By that point, Southerners had already imported hundreds of slaves into the region, and over the next decade they would transform California, especially Southern California, into the proslavery bastion of the Far West.

Through the 1850s proslavery Democrats dominated California politics, ensuring that the state voted more like Virginia than Vermont.

For example, in 1852 the state legislature decreed that all slaves brought into California before statehood would remain enslaved, so long as they were eventually carried back to the South. Slaves who resisted were categorized as fugitives and prohibited from testifying or calling witnesses in their defense. In dozens of cases, California’s courts ruled in favor of slaveholders.

As historian Stacey L. Smith has documented, California contained between 600 and 1000 enslaved African Americans before the Civil War. And slaveholders constantly plotted to increase this number.

Shortly before orchestrating America’s acquisition of a 30,000 square-mile region from Mexico (what is now known as the Gadsden Purchase), the South Carolinian James Gadsden attempted to plant slavery on California’s ostensibly free soil. With the help of his friends within the state, Gadsden planned to establish a California colony of transplanted Southerners, along with their 2000 enslaved laborers. Although his proposal ultimately failed, that the state legislature even entertained such a brazenly unconstitutional petition indicates just how sympathetic California had become to proslavery intrusion.

Gadsden was also part of a broader movement to divide California and create a separate territory from its southernmost counties. Many believed (and hoped) that the new territory would eventually become a slave state. In 1859 a state division bill passed both houses of the California legislature, was approved by an overwhelming majority of Southern California voters, and then forwarded to Washington for authorization. The split was narrowly averted, as Congress, distracted by the rising controversy over slavery, shelved the bill.

In 1860, California gave Abraham Lincoln a smaller proportion of votes than any other free state – just 32 percent – though still enough to secure Lincoln’s narrow electoral victory in the state. California’s entire congressional delegation supported the proslavery presidential candidate, John C. Breckinridge.

Upon Confederate secession, a number of prominent Californians entertained the idea of forming a separate Pacific republic. The Los Angeles Star, the city’s first major newspaper, blamed Lincoln and his party for the war and strongly endorsed the creation of an independent Far West. Lincoln himself feared that California would detach from the Union.

During the war, Union troops garrisoned Southern California to prevent an uprising of the region’s numerous Confederate supporters. In the summer of 1864, a small band of Confederate rangers, assembled from the rebellious local population, raided California’s gold country, robbing stagecoaches and engaging in several shootouts with authorities. Most of the gang was eventually captured, but not before deeply unsettling the region’s Unionist population.

California also faced threats from far larger forces, namely a Confederate army of over 3,000, which invaded the Southwest in early 1862. With the ultimate objective of seizing California’s ports and gold, this army succeeded in conquering nearly the entire territory of New Mexico and reinforced the Confederate territory of Arizona, before finally being turned back at the battle of Glorieta Pass.

California’s politics of racial exclusion continued to thrive long after the Civil War. California was the one free state to refuse to ratify both the 14th and 15th Amendments, those that expanded civil rights and guaranteed black male suffrage, respectively. Fearing the enfranchisement of Chinese-Americans, California legislators delayed ratification of the 15th Amendment until 1962. By that point America had already begun launching astronauts into space.

Loon Judge overturns a democratic election - The will of the People has no meaning

Palmdale is in the northern Mojave Desert of Los Angeles County.

"Evil" Racist City Elects Black Councilman
  • Palmdale is the first California city to have its election system upended in court by Democrat Leftist Loons looking to elect more brain-dead "community organizers" like themselves to office.
  • In a racial Pogrom that would make Hitler proud, Leftists scream to divide Americans by race, because in their sick minds race trumps all.
  • Also ignore the fact that the "racist" people of Palmdale just elected a African American to the city council.

A wacko loon Los Angeles County Superior Court judge in a quest for some insane Liberal "racial justice" has declared the 2013 election in the city of Palmdale null and void.

The fact that those "common people" dared to hold a free election means nothing to these Leftist bastards.

This nutcase judge earlier this year found the city of Palmdale to be in "violation" of the California Voting Rights Act, has ordered the city to hold a new by-district election for its four City Council posts.

In a ruling dated last week, Judge Mark V. Mooney ordered that the special election, to replace the balloting for council seats held last month, is to be conducted June 3, the same day as the California primary.

Future elections are to be held in November of even-numbered years, to dovetail with state and federal balloting, in the expectation that such coordination will increase voter turnout reports the Los Angeles Times.

The judge allowed Palmdale to continue to elect its mayor by voters throughout the city. That means Mayor James Ledford's recent reelection will not be affected by the ruling.

A Palmdale official on Monday reaffirmed the city's intention to appeal the trial court's finding that the practice of electing council members at large, rather than by geographic district, deprives minorities of an opportunity to elect candidates they feel can best represent them.

"We're still analyzing the opinion and our options," Assistant City Atty. Noel Doran said Monday. "We've needed this ruling ... so we can appeal the entire matter."

As yet unclear is what, if any, effect a pending appellate court decision on whether to certify last month's election will have on the case.

The city's election system has been under attack since last year, when several minority residents filed suit claiming that the method of electing officials from across the city diluted their ability to participate in government. About two-thirds of residents are minorities, but voters had chosen only one Latino for office since its 1962 incorporation.

Last month, Fred Thompson of Palmdale was elected its first African American council member, whose status, along with that of his three council colleagues, has been thrown into doubt by the court's edict. Mooney ruled that none of the current council members can serve past July 9, 2014, presumably allowing enough time for the special election to be conducted and the results certified.

The judge rejected the city's proposed new districts in favor of a plan offered by the plaintiffs, which will give the city two Latino-majority districts and another with substantial numbers of black and Latino residents.

"The current members of the Palmdale City Council were elected through an unlawful election," Mooney wrote. "The citizens of the city of Palmdale are entitled to have a council that truly represents all members of the community."

City officials have maintained throughout the court process that its election system does not hinder minorities. They blamed a lack of experience, community involvement or a viable campaign for minorities' failure to win office.

Attorneys for the plaintiffs said they were "generally pleased" with the ruling, although they had sought to create a fifth council district and have the mayor's post rotate among the members rather than elected separately.

The ruling makes Palmdale the first California city to have its election system upended in court under the 12-year-old state Voting Rights Act. Many other local governments with significant minority populations but few or no minority representatives have switched voluntarily to elections by geographic district or have done so to settle lawsuits.

A handful of others, including Anaheim and Whittier, are facing trials after deciding to defend their practice of electing council members citywide.

L.A. County leads California in poverty

Welcome to Poverty
  • A new analysis of hardship that adds factors such as housing costs and government benefits found that 27% of L.A. County residents lived in poverty in 2011, compared with the official rate of 18%.
  • Yes poverty is up, but the "study" conveniently forgot to factor in the deliberate importation of countless millions of dirt poor illegal immigrants.

People's Republic of California  -  Los Angeles has the highest poverty rate among California counties, according to a new analysis announced Monday that upends traditional views of rural and urban hardship by adding factors such as the soaring price of city housing.

The measurement, developed by researchers with the Public Policy Institute of California and the Stanford Center on Poverty and Inequality, found that 2.6 million, or 27%, of Los Angeles County residents lived in poverty in 2011. The official poverty rate for the county, based on the U.S. Census' 2011 American Community Survey, is 18% reports the Los Angeles Times.

The new analysis set California's poverty rate at 22%, the highest in the nation, compared with the official rate of 16%. Counties such as Placer and Sacramento, with more moderate housing costs, have lower poverty rates than those of metropolitan areas, researchers said.

"We always see maps of official poverty and think of the Central Valley as the most impoverished," said economist Sarah Bohn, a research fellow at the public policy institute and one of the study's authors. "This really turns that on its head."

The new model aims to present a fuller picture of poverty by taking into account living expenses and government benefits ignored in the official formula.

Social scientists have argued for decades that the federal definition of poverty, which dates to the early 1960s, falls short on two counts: ignoring the benefits of government aid, including food stamps, Social Security, subsidized housing and tax credits, and failing to account for regional cost differences in transportation, healthcare and housing.

The report released Monday found that although many Californians find it difficult to make ends meet, things would be much worse without state, federal and local safety net programs, including food stamps, CalWORKs and the earned income tax credit. Out-of-pocket medical costs, however, increase the hardship, particularly for Californians over 65, the report said.

The U.S. Census Bureau for the last two years has released its own alternative poverty rate that attempts to recalibrate the poverty threshold. The rate is for research purposes only, but if adopted nationally, it could lead to a dramatic redistribution of federal funding in state and local jurisdictions.

Importing Poverty
The study on increased poverty does not take into account the U.S. importing poverty from Central America and Mexico.  Insane liberals demand out of "fairness" that American citizens of all races turn over their tax money and jobs to the citizens of foreign nations.

Democrats and GOP join together to attack guns

Jackass of the Day Award
Democrat Senator Rod Wright wants to put gun owners in jail for crimes committed by others.  Republicans join in support.

A bill that appears headed to the governor would require gun owners to lock up their weapons if they live with a convicted felon or anyone else who is prohibited from owning a firearm.

The legislation from Jackass of the Day winner Sen. Rod Wright, D-Inglewood, expands the state's gun-storage law to those who know or should know they are living with someone who is not allowed to possess a firearm.

SB363 heads back to the Senate for a final vote after passing the Assembly on a 62-8 vote Tuesday, reports the Merced Sun Star.

The state's list of people who cannot legally own weapons includes those who have a felony or violent misdemeanor conviction; a determination that they are mentally unstable; or a domestic violence restraining order. The list is confidential and used for law-enforcement purposes.

If their weapon is used in a crime committed by a prohibited person, a gun owner could face fines and jail time.

The legislation is among a series of gun-control bills introduced this year in response to the mass shootings in Connecticut and Colorado. New York and other states also have approved tough firearms laws this year.

Supporters, including the California Police Chiefs Association, say the requirement would help prevent unlawful access to guns.

"When you take on the responsibility of owning pistols and rifles, you take on the responsibility of ensuring the safety of those weapons," said Assemblyman Rocky Chavez, R-Oceanside, who was among roughly a dozen Republicans supporting the bill.

But Assemblyman Tim Donnelly, R-Twin Peaks, said the bill would hold people accountable for crimes in which they had no direct involvement.

"If somebody drives drunk, you don't hold the spouse accountable for that which someone else has committed," Donnelly said. "It just doesn't make any sense."

Actor Rails Against Difficulty of Opening a Small Business in California

A Small Business fights the poor economy and Big Government

Longtime actor and entrepreneur Joseph C. Phillips, a man you might recognize from “The Cosby Show” or “General Hospital,” guest hosted the Glenn Beck Program Thursday night, where he discussed “the real” American dream and the difficulties of starting a small business in today’s economy — particularly in California.

The “unapologetic Christian and conservative” recently opened a restaurant called Daddy J’s Wingshack, so he has first-hand insight on the subject.

Given that small businesses represent the quest for the American dream, one might imagine that our governments, local and federal, would support and encourage those attempting to open small businesses. Well — one would be wrong, at least if you live in California,” he began.

“When we opened our doors a year and a half ago we were immediately beset by bureaucrats walking in carrying mountains of documents for us to read, lengthy rules, stuff for us to sign obligating us to this tax and that tax, writing check after check after check…” he continued.

Phillips said he has no problem with certain government regulations — he likes to know, for instance, that the health inspector has certified that an establishment is fit for service — but there is far more to deal with than the health inspector in today’s industry.

“My problem with bureaucrats is…the rules and guidelines and statutes that are enforced are often a matter of who you’re talking to — whether they stayed up too late the night before, whether they got some lovin’ from their spouse or their loved one, and quite frankly, whether or not they like the way you look!” he said. “The codes [are] written so that oftentimes they conflict with one another. You go down to the Health Department, the code says one thing, then you go down to the building safety department, the code says something completely different.”

All of which leads to a state of perpetual insecurity, he said, since everyone knows it’s impossible to be in a state of 100% compliance.

“If some bureaucrat wants to jam you up — if some guy who’s driving a city car, who’s never risked anything in his life, never built anything — if he wants to jam you up, wants to flex a little bit, you’re going to get jammed up,” he said. “And in the same way, if some inspector decides you look cool and wants to cut you some slack, you get to skate.”

As an example of just one of the many taxes and regulations he has do deal with, Phillips said the county of Los Angeles sends him a county assessment bill every year, which is “a tax on everything in the store” that he owns, from the friers to the chairs.

“Didn’t I already pay tax on all this stuff when I purchased it originally?” he asked, predicting the audience’s question. “The answer is yes. However, now I must pay a tax on those same items, an assessment, and that assessment is paid in perpetuity.”

And if that’s not enough, Phillips added that the county “assess the items as if they were new,” regardless of whether the refrigerator is eight years old or whether he bought the frier used.

“If my restaurant burned down my insurance company wouldn’t reimburse me at that rate,” he noted.  “If I tried to sell it on the open market not one person would pay that price…But what does that have to do with the county of Los Angeles? The county assess me at that rate every every single year.”

“Welcome to entrepreneurship,” he said.

Latinos become the largest ethnic group in California

Perhaps today or certainly sometime very soon, another baby will be born or a new immigrant will arrive and the number of Latinos in California will equal the state's non-Hispanic white population, according to official state population projections.

The term Latino is an ethnic rather than racial designation, according to the Census Bureau. Most Latinos are white, but the bureau draws a distinction between Latinos and non-Hispanic whites.

Fifteen years ago, non-Hispanic whites outnumbered Latinos in California by roughly 5 million, census figures show reports the Sacramento Bee.

But the Latino population has grown quickly through immigration and comparatively high birth rates. At the same time, the number of whites has fallen as birth rates in that population dropped and more of them left the state than came here.

"We're adding a substantial number of Latinos through immigration," said Hans Johnson, senior fellow at the Public Policy Institute of California. "Many of them are young adults ready to start families."

Today, California has approximately 15 million Latinos and 15 million non-Hispanic whites.
"The Hispanic population will be even with the number of non-Hispanic whites by mid-2013," state Department of Finance demographers wrote in their most recent series of population projections.  "Early in 2014, the Hispanic population will become the plurality in California for the first time since California became a state."
By 2064, according to the state Department of Finance, California will have 25 million Latinos and 15.6 million whites.

Asian Immigration
From day one California has attracted millions of immigrants from Asia.  Currently Asian-Americans make up about 13% of California's population.
